The new Agency Workers Directive (Directive 2008/104/EC) was agreed by EU Member States and the European Parliament in 2008. The aim of the Directive is to ensure the protection of temporary agency workers by applying the principle of equal treatment for agency workers on pay, holiday and overtime and must be implemented by Member States before December 2011.
The Government is currently consulting on proposals for implementation in the UK and is seeking views of those affected. Views are particularly sought from agency workers, temporary work agencies, companies who use agency workers, people representing agency workers in the workplace and trade associations or representative bodies.
