Government Offices represent the interests of 11 Government Departments in the English regions. They support the Departments’ aims of improving economic performance, skills, productivity and innovation by influencing the priorities set by Government and regional partners for the regional economic development, and assisting their effective delivery.

As part of its role Government Office for the North West has good links with business organisations throughout the region and works closely with the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
We have been active in:
- organising regional visits by Ministers and senior civil servants, to meet a range of businesses and business representatives;
- working with Government Office colleagues and strategic partners in the North West on issues that have an impact on business including planning, skills, transport and crime;
- feeding back business concerns and views to BERR via the Northwest Regional Economic Report;
- working closely with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) on the Government's Business Support Simplification Programme (BSSP);
- supporting Local Areas with successful bids for Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) in St Helens, North Liverpool/South Sefton, Blackpool and Pennine Lancashire;
- negotiating Local Area Agreements between Central Government and the 22 Local Authorities within the North West;
- supporting BERR with the implementation of their new Enterprise Strategy (see link below).
