The aim of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is to maximise the contribution of the arts sector, and through this to improve the quality of life of all. It also works with the creative industries, which are those industries with their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property.

The Creative Industries
The creative industries are growing regionally and nationally. A recent national study showed that 7% of employment was in the creative industries. The Northwest Development Agency is the lead body for creative industries development in the North West. We work with the NWDA, Culture Northwest and other agencies to encourage this growth and to ensure that we are maximising the benefits for north west communities from major developments including the Media.city in Salford.
Media.City is a major creative industries and media hub which is being developed in Salford Quays. The BBC are moving 5 departments and significant production to Media.City. This will make Greater Manchester the largest broadcast centre outside London.
This will enhance the North West’s dynamic film, television and digital industries. North West Vision and Media is the film and media development arm for the North West.
