Change for Children

Government Office for the North West is tasked with implementing the Department for Education policies for children and young people in the region. As the North West contains some of the most deprived wards in England, this makes the delivery of the Government’s commitments for children and young people especially important.

'Every Child Matters - Change for Children' set out a national framework of change, to be led by local authorities and their partners, to improve life for children and young people. Government Offices (GOs) play a key role in delivering and developing the policies which will achieve this. More information on the national picture

We play an active role in contributing to the development and implementation of policy on the Children and Young People’s agenda, with an increasing focus on strategic support to improve outcomes for children and young people in the region. These outcomes for children and young people are to:
  • be healthy
  • stay safe
  • enjoy and achieve
  • make a positive contribution
  • achieve economic well-being

and these will provide key drivers for our work over the coming year.
